According to reports, papillary thyroid cancer is the most common thyroid cancer – and makes up around 80 per cent of all thyroid cancer cases.

The thyroid is the gland that sits below your voice box and produces hormones for your body.

It’s unclear what causes the cancer, but certain genetic conditions, family history, and the patient’s age and gender can all play a role in their diagnosis.

In most cases, papillary thyroid cancer is asymptomatic, but some people can grow a mass on their neck.

Peak onset is from 30-50 years old, and it affects more women than men.

The movie won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2019, making it the first non-English-language film and the first South Korean movie to ever take home the award. She is pictured in January 2020

This type of cancer has a high cure rate, and it’s been reported that 10-year survival rates for all patients with papillary thyroid cancer is estimated at over 90 per cent.

According to WebMD, it is often treated with surgery, but doctors can also use Radioactive iodine (RAI) ablation in severe cases, as well as thyroid hormone pills.
