8 Upcoming DC Universe Characters Who Could Beat Darkseid

[ad_1]

Although Darkseid is one of the most powerful villains in the DC Universe, several of the franchise’s confirmed superheroes can beat him. The New God known as Darkseid, also known as Uxas, rules over a vast empire from his home planet of Apokolips, seeking the Anti-Life Equation, which would allow him to eliminate free will. Darkseid’s live-action debut in Zack Snyder’s Justice League established him as one of DC’s greatest threats, but he is not invincible. The DCEU included heroes capable of defeating him, and while the universe is set to reboot following the events of The Flash, many of James Gunn’s confirmed DCU heroes are able to defeat Darkseid.

The extent of Gunn’s changes to the DCEU is unknown for the time being, but there is evidence that much of the old continuity will survive The Flash’s changes, with the biggest differences being new iterations of Superman and Batman. While Zack Snyder’s DCEU plans are highly unlikely to be followed by the new DCU, elements of his released films, such as Justice League, may still be partially canon, including his version of Darkseid. In addition to revealing a portion of the DCU’s upcoming slate, Gunn has also confirmed that other heroes will play a role in his DCU. Here are all the confirmed DCU heroes capable of defeating Darkseid.

8 Superman

Superman’s powerful potential was made abundantly clear in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, with the Kryptonian hero’s death causing Earth’s Mother Boxes to activate. In a dystopian alternate timeline, Darkseid managed to beat Superman not by outfighting him but instead making him a pawn by removing his free will with the Anti-Life Equation. In various DC Comics and many other adaptations, Superman has fought Darkseid in one-on-one fights and defeated him, making him one of Earth’s greatest defenders against the Apokoliptian despot. Henry Cavill’s iteration of Superman will be replaced by a new version in Superman: Legacy, but he will presumably still be able to beat Darkseid.

7 Supergirl

Kara Zor-El has the same basic power set as her cousin, Superman, making her yet another DC superhero capable of defeating Darkseid. Like Superman, Supergirl has also beaten Darkseid in the comics and their adaptations, with one notable example being the animated movie Superman/Batman: Apocalypse. Kara Zor-El is canonically part of the old DCEU, thanks to a Man of Steel prequel comic, but her franchise debut will be Sasha Calle’s alternate universe iteration in The Flash. Whether or not Calle will continue to play Supergirl in the new DCU is unknown, but a version of Supergirl is confirmed to star in the upcoming DCU film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

6 Batman

As an ordinary human with no superpowers, Batman, for all his skills, intelligence, and high-tech gear, should be no match for Darkseid. There have been instances in the comics and their adaptations, however, in which the Dark Knight managed to defeat Darkseid. The most prominent examples of this include Final Crisis, in which Batman exploits Darkseid’s vulnerability to Radion, and Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, where Batman hacks into one of Darkseid’s weapons, forcing the latter to surrender. Ben Affleck’s Batman will be recast following The Flash’s timeline alterations, but however different James Gunn’s new version of Batman is from Affleck’s, it is safe to assume that he too could potentially defeat Darkseid.

5 The Green Lantern Corps

While there is little evidence in DC’s comics to suggest that a single Green Lantern could defeat Darkseid in a one-on-one fight, they may be a greater threat to him in the old DCEU. Along with Kryptonians, Green Lanterns are alluded to in Zack Snyder’s Justice League as one of the greatest potential threats to Darkseid’s conquest, despite the ancient Green Lantern Corps member Yalan Gur being slain by Darkseid in the latter’s initial attempt to conquer Earth. The fan-favorite Green Lanterns John Stewart and Hal Jordan are confirmed to star in the upcoming DCU TV series Lanterns, which may depict them as powerful enough to defeat Darkseid.

4 Wonder Woman

As one of the Justice League’s most powerful and skilled warriors, it is unsurprising that Wonder Woman can defeat Darkseid in a one-on-one battle. As both an Old God and an Amazon, Diana of Themyscira possesses physical superpowers that are comparable to those of a Kryptonian, and her fighting skills are unmatched. Moreover, Wonder Woman has defeated Darkseid in the comics, with a recent example being her post-DC Rebirth solo series. Wonder Woman is confirmed to play a prominent role in James Gunn’s new DCU, though for now, it is unknown if Gal Gadot will remain in the role.

3 Hippolyta

While Queen Hippolyta most likely cannot overpower Darkseid through sheer strength alone, she may be a more skilled combatant than he is, and her intelligence could be more than a match for the Apokoliptian warlord. James Gunn’s only confirmed Wonder Woman project thus far is the TV series Paradise Lost, which will serve as a prequel to Wonder Woman’s adventures and feature Diana Prince’s predecessors rather than Diana herself. Hippolyta is all but guaranteed to appear in Paradise Lost, but there are other Amazons who may appear and be capable of defeating Darkseid, such as Antiope, Nubia, and Artemis of Bana-Mighdall.

2 Aquaman

Aquaman 2 Jason Momoa

Aquaman is simultaneously one of DC’s most powerful and most underrated superheroes. Aquaman possesses strength and skill comparable to Superman and Aqua Man and is armed with an astonishingly powerful magic trident that grants him even greater control over the seas. In the Justice League’s post-Flashpoint debut, Aquaman notably inflicts a critical wound on Darkseid, blinding him with his trident and preventing him from using his deadly Omega Beams and proving that the King of the Seas can defeat the Apokoliptian conqueror. The DCEU’s iteration of Aquaman, played by Jason Momoa, has shown how powerful Aquaman can be, and Momoa may remain in the role in the DC Universe.

1 The Flash

The Flash lacks the strength to fight Darkseid directly, but his unmatched speed and ability to travel through time allow him to potentially defeat the Apokoliptian. Barry Allen is connected to the Speed Force, a cosmic energy that allows him to alter time and travel across the multiverse. In Zack Snyder’s Justice League, The Flash managed to undo Steppenwolf’s victory and give the rest of his teammates a chance to thwart Darkseid’s conquest, so Barry could use his time-traveling abilities to defeat Darkseid indirectly. The Flash will likely remain a staple of the DC Universe.
