Evan Peters says that, after American Horror Story, Mare of Easttown, and Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, he really wants to do a rom-com.
Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story star Evan Peters has said that he wants to do a rom-com after starring in such an intense role. Peters, who is best known for his role as Quicksilver in the X-Men movies and as various characters in American Horror Story, first rose to prominence for his collaboration with Ryan Murphy on American Horror Story season 1 as the memorably twisted character Tate Langdon. Since then, he has appeared in eight more seasons playing different characters, including the hotelier serial killer James Patrick March, clown cult creator Kai Anderson, and real-life figures Jim Jones and Charles Manson.
Peters’ latest collaboration with Murphy is the Netflix series Monster, which has allowed him to bring another notorious real-life figure to life. In his role as Jeffrey Dahmer, Peters reenacts many of the notorious serial killer’s crimes while his neighbor Glenda Cleveland (Niecy Nash) attempts to get the authorities to pay attention to the strange happenings in his apartment. The cast of the series also includes Richard Jenkins as Lionel Dahmer, Molly Ringwald as Shari Dahmer, and Michael Learned as Catherine Dahmer.
The fan account Evan Peters Brasil shared a video of Murphy speaking at a Q&A for Dahmer that also featured Peters. Murphy discussed the fact that Peters immediately went from American Horror Story to a similarly intense role on the HBO miniseries crime drama Mare of Easttown. Murphy reports that after these experiences, Peters repeatedly said to him, “I really wanna play somebody normal… I wanna do a rom-com.” Read Murphy’s full quote below:
Evan and I had worked together on Horror Story for many many many years, and then we took a break and he went off to do Mare of Easttown for which he won the Emmy Award, and… he kept saying to me, “I really wanna play somebody normal… I wanna do a rom-com.”
What’s Next For Evan Peters After Dahmer?
So far, there have not been any major announcements about what Peters will actually be doing after Dahmer. The only project he is reportedly attached to is the Darrin Prescott crime thriller Snow Ponies, opposite Punisher‘s Jon Bernthal, Josh Gad, and Charlie Plummer. However, that film was announced in 2018 and is still reported as being in pre-production, so it may not see the light of day any time soon, if at all. There are likely several Peters projects in the hopper that the public doesn’t yet know about, but his slate may be clear to indeed pursue a rom-com.
Conveniently, one of the most prominent purveyors of rom-coms in the modern era is Netflix. They have produced many romantic offerings between non-themed films like Set It Up and the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy (which helped boosted the mega-popularity of Black Adam star Noah Centineo) and the Christmas rom-coms including A Christmas Prince, The Princess Switch, and A Castle for Christmas. Considering the fact that Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story was a huge hit for Netflix, the star might be able to get in the room with them and finagle a role in one of their softer, fluffier offerings.
