Rhaenyra’s regal look, as worn by actor Milly Alcock, is recreated in an impressive new House of the Dragon cosplay. A spinoff of HBO’s Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon serves as an adaptation of author George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood. The show was released last summer to strong reviews, with season 1 chronicling the growing distrust and tension between former childhood friends Rhaenyra (Alcock and Emma D’Arcy) and Alicent (Emily Carey and Olivia Cooke).
As work on House of the Dragon season 2 continues, Martina Uggeri on Instagram has recreated Rhaenyra’s formal look down the last detail. Check out the impressive cosplay below:
The costume pictured is worn by the younger version of Rhaenyra before Alock is swapped out for D’Arcy following a big time jump. The impressive cosplay feature embroidered dragons on the lapels and even sees Rhaenyra’s ornate headpiece meticulously recreated.
What To Expect From Rhaenyra In House Of The Dragon Season 2
With confirmation that House of the Dragon season 2 won’t feature any time jumps, the upcoming batch of episodes is set to really settle into the conflict between Rhaenyra and Alicent. The season 1 finale ends with Aemond inadvertently killing Rhaenyra’s son, Lucerys, thus setting the stage for a major conflict to come. To really hammer this home, the last scene of House of the Dragon season 1 focuses on Rhaenyra, filled with rage and grief, a tease that retribution is on the horizon.
Conflict had been brewing before Lucerys’ death, however, with Alicent and Rhaenyra steadily growing further and further apart. Just before Viserys (Paddy Considine) dies earlier in the season he mistakenly confides to Alicent, telling her the Song of Ice and Fire prophecy. Alicent misunderstands, believing that it is Viserys’ dying wish that her son Aegon sit upon the throne. The two former friends, then, already had vast political differences before it became personal.
Without delving into spoilers from Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon season 2 will see the conflict between the two parties intensify. Showrunner Ryan Condal has also confirmed that while many familiar faces will return, the war brewing between Rhaenyra and Alicent will result in several new mystery characters joining the mix as well. While Alcock’s portrayal of Rhaenyra was a major highlight from House of the Dragon season 1, it looks like D’Arcy will be the sole actor to play the character from now on, meaning that red and white regal robe costume will also probably not be returning.
