How To Do The Greninja Tera Raid Solo In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Date:

Bringing in a Pokémon for the Greninja Tera Raid in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet that deals super effective damage consistently helps solo this battle.

Teamwork with AI controlled allies or other online players can be demanding during the most difficult 7-star Tera Raids in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, but players can choose to go at these battles solo in examples such as the recent Greninja challenge. The primary Raid available in late January 2023, the former starter evolution Water-/Dark-type makes their debut in this Generation through a tough post-game encounter similar to the Salamence, Cinderace, and Charizard Raids beforehand. However, players that construct a team full of powerful counters that exploit Greninja’s weakness have the best chance to finish this fight without help.

Tera types demand more strategy from players in these Raids, as the additional typing granted to Greninja during Terastralization either adds an entirely new set of weaknesses/resistances or doubles the effectiveness of existing moves found on the Pokémon. For example, if players encounter a Raid Greninja with moves such as Aqua Jet, and it has the Water-type Tera transformation, the attack power of that move doubles during that state. Pokémon Scarlet & Violet‘s strongest pocket monsters must also be prepared to deal with changes that could arise from Greninja’s sudden changes from the Tera system.

Solo Builds For The Greninja Tera Raid in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

The Tera type prominently featured during this Raid happens to be Poison, so players should avoid bringing Fairy-types into the mix. In essence, Greninja will turn into a Poison-/Dark-type Pokémon when under the influence of the Tera transformation, making the normal weakness to Electric-/Grass-types practically useless during that state. A common mistake players might decide to embark on as a result would be to bring a Ground-type Pokémon in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet to combat the newly developed Poison-type trait. However, the moves on Greninja do not change during the Tera state, meaning Water-type moves will still be dangerous and certainly prevent a solo run in the Raid against a Ground-type.

Builds that work best for solo encounters against Greninja revolve around the Pokémon Gallade, a Fighting-/Ground-type found outside several mountainous areas in the Paldea Region. Gallade counters most options Greninja can muster in either form, with super effective damage against the Dark-type in its base form and resistance against attacks of that type. The high Special Attack damage dealt from Psychic-type moves also becomes super effective against the Poison Tera type in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, making sure the player constantly has a strategy against nearly every typing Greninja has.

Although Gallade may have less impressive defensive stats compared to a sturdier Ground-type, players can give the Pokémon items to mitigate these risks. From Special Attack or Psychic-type boosting objects such as the Choice Specs or Twisted Spoon, players can bolster Gallade’s damage by a huge margin to almost one-shot Greninja in certain instances. Combined with either an Adamant nature to boost Gallade’s Fighting-type associated Attack stat or a Quiet nature to boost Special Attack, players using this strategy should be easily able to solo the challenging Greninja Tera Raid in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
