Why Yue Is An Important Last Airbender Character
Yue’s fate in Avatar: The Last Airbender is sealed at the end of season 1, when she gives her life to the Moon Spirit so the waterbenders of the Northern Water Tribe aren’t wiped out by the Fire Nation. She shares a kiss with Sokka before fading away, becoming the first major character death in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Her influence on Sokka is clear moving forward, as he begins to feel guilty about her death and ultimately takes some time to move on.
Alongside her role in the original Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series, Yue was also portrayed by Seychelle Gabriel in M. Night Shyamalan’s critically panned live-action film The Last Airbender. Netflix’s new live-action series adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender will see Amber Midthunder as Yue. Midthunder is best known for her role as Naru in 2022’s Prey.
While she isn’t in Avatar: The Last Airbender for long, Yue’s influence in the series is felt through Sokka’s character development following her death. This makes her an incredibly important character, making it easy to see why people would want to cosplay as her. It will also prove interesting to see how Midthunder brings the popular Avatar: The Last Airbender character to life in a live-action series.
