James Gunn has announced that he is engaged to longtime partner and Peacemaker star Jennifer Holland. Gunn is an American filmmaker, director, and screenwriter who is best known for directing Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy and its sequel. While he came to prominence through Marvel, he has been making big waves in the DC universe lately. In August of 2021, Gunn’s version of The Suicide Squad was released and received much more positive reception than the 2016 Suicide Squad. Following the release of The Suicide Squad, Gunn created and directed the first DC Extended Universe TV series titled Peacemaker.
The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker haven’t just propelled him into the DC universe, but have also given him a chance to work closely with his partner, Holland. The two have been dating since 2015, and Gunn tapped her to star in The Suicide Squad as Emilia Harcourt. Harcourt is an NSA agent who works closely with Amanda Waller and is tasked with monitoring Task Force X. Holland reprises her role as Harcourt in Peacemaker where she is assigned to the A.R.G.U.S. black ops squad “Butterfly Project” which Peacemaker (John Cena) is forced to join upon recovering from injuries sustained in The Suicide Squad.
On February 20, 2022, Gunn took to Instagram to subtly share his engagement to Holland. Gunn posted a photo of Holland taking a sip from a mug, with a sizeable rock sitting on her ring finger. The ring appears to be a gorgeous emerald-cut diamond and is paired nicely with Gunn’s adorable heart and smiley emoji caption. Gunn’s announcement was met with excitement as congratulatory comments poured onto his Instagram post. Their engagement comes nearly seven years after their relationship first began. The two purportedly were introduced by their mutual friend and Smallville star, Michael Rosenbaum, and quickly hit it off. Holland is an American actress who began her career in 2004. While she is most well known for appearing in The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, she has actually starred in one of Gunn’s previous works, as well. In 2019, she appeared in Brightburn, a superhero horror film written and produced by Gunn. With confirmation of their engagement, there is a strong likelihood the talented duo will continue to collaborate on projects together.
In the film industry, it isn’t often that actors and filmmakers get the opportunity, or have the desire, to share their personal lives with the public. That is why it is always a special thing when they choose to share the sweetest and most poignant moments of their lives with their supporters. Gunn is known for his social media usage and utilizes it frequently to promote or tease his most recent projects. Holland’s social media follows a similar theme, as she promotes her projects and supports her colleagues. However, their engagement is much worth the break from their usual posting habits to celebrate a special moment between them. From their posts, it appears both are filled with happiness at the announcement and are excited to share it with their supportive followers. Gunn and Holland have accomplished quite a bit with Peacemaker, and it remains to be seen what further projects the two will take on as they move forward in their careers and in their relationship with one another.
