The 10 Funniest Quotes From Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Date:

With Tales of the Jedi, Dave Filoni and everyone working tirelessly behind the scenes have furthered the legacy of The Clone Wars, giving fans slightly maturer animated stories continuing from that iconic show. Both shows have their immense quality, but one thing The Clone Wars has in abundance due to being longer is humor, of which there is a lot.

Through its eight seasons, The Clone Wars has so many hilarious moments. Thanks to the writing and vocal performances, the show has some of the funniest Star Wars quotes ever through characters like Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Hondo Ohnaka.

“So, The Only Thing You Can Tell Me Is That I Will Find Jabba… At Jabba’s Palace?”

Maul, 5.14 ‘Eminence’

Darth Maul attacks Oruba The Hutt in the Clone Wars.

The writing of The Clone Wars leads to some brilliant, intentionally comedic lines of dialogue. Still, there are also a couple of unintentionally hilarious quotes, like this from Maul, which is helped massively by the excellent Sam Witwer – who gives one of Star Wars’ best villain performances as the former Sith.

When interrogating the Hutt, Maul is annoyed by his stupidity and statement of the obvious. As a result, fans get an inadvertently funny moment that does not take away from the quality or tension of the episode. Maul is hardly the most humorous character in Star Wars, but thanks to Sam Witwer and the writing behind him, he can give audiences a chuckle.

“That Sounds Like Terrorism, Anakin.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi, 5.02 ‘A War On Two Fronts’

Anakin & Ahsoka try to convince the Jedi Council to help Onderon rebels in The Clone Wars

The dynamic between Anakin and Obi-Wan leads to many of Star Wars’ funniest moments and lines, including this, which is an accidental but fair summation of their overall relationship.

While asking the Jedi Council to help the rebels on Onderon, Anakin is met with this brilliantly delivered line from Obi-Wan, which is so funny to hear out of context and upon rewatching The Clone Wars. It is especially funny because much of their relationship is spent with Obi-Wan convincing Anakin not to partake in recklessness.

“Well, At Least You’re A Master… At Getting Caught.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi, 1.11 ‘Dooku Captured’

Star Wars The Clone Wars Count Dooku Captured Anakins Skywalker Obi-Wan Kenobi

Anakin often finds himself at the end of verbal jabs from those he loves in The Clone Wars, not least of all Obi-Wan, with whom he has some of the best banter in Star Wars. A prime example is when Hondo captures them along with Dooku.

This entire exchange is funny on its own, but given the context and meme culture behind Anakin not earning the title of Jedi Master, it has an additional meta-layer that makes it even funnier over time.

“Unhand Me, Brigand.”

Ahsoka Tano, 4.12 ‘Slaves Of The Republic’

Anakin Skywalker takes a disguised slave Ahsoka to the Zyggerian slaver queen in Star Wars The Clone Wars

Ahsoka Tano is no slouch when it comes to Star Wars humor, and similarly to Obi-Wan in the series, many of her funniest moments come when bantering with Anakin. Arguably her funniest, though, is pure bad acting on her part.

While attempting to convince Miraj Scintel that Ahsoka is Anakin’s slave, the fiery Ahsoka hits out with this quote that cannot help but inspire a laugh, in large part due to the talents of Ashley Eckstein. It is such a bad attempt at deception from Ahsoka, and the look shared between her and Anakin after the fact only makes it funnier.

“Right. No, Anakin, She’s Not My…”

Obi-Wan Kenobi, 2.13 ‘Voyage Of Temptation’

Anakin calls Satine Obi-Wan's girlfriend in the Clone Wars

Obi-Wan’s relationship with Satine is one of the most fascinating additions to the Jedi’s character to come from The Clone Wars and one of the best, leading to some fantastic stories, emotional moments, and funny quips like this from Anakin.

This stuttering, flustered reply from Obi-Wan is a response to Anakin referring to the Duchess as his girlfriend, and it is both hilarious and adorable. The story of Satine and Obi-Wan is one of duty and tragedy, yet it is so beautiful to watch unfold, constantly filling fans’ faces with a smile while also delivering a few laughs like this.

“Study The Bottom Of My Boot.”

Anakin Skywalker, 2.07 ‘The Legacy Of Terror’

Ankin crushes a brain parasite and tells Obi-Wan to study his boot in The Clone Wars

Concerning his outings in the prequel trilogy, The Clone Wars version of Anakin is much funnier, with wittier comments and funny statements that are delivered with so much charisma. That is very clear in moments like this.

After stepping on the parasite creature that Obi-Wan wanted to study, a hilarious exchange in itself, Anakin garnishes it with this quip. As well as just a quick, funny line, it is made all the funnier by how genuinely upset Obi-Wan seemed to be about not getting to study the worm.

“Anakin.” “What?” “Control Your Insolence, The Count Is Concentrating.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi, 1.12 ‘The Gungan General’

Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Dooku try to escape Hondo's dungeon in The Clone Wars

It is a rare treat to see the wit of both Obi-Wan and Anakin put together to insult an enemy, but it is well worth its scarcity for moments like when they are trapped with Count Dooku and hurl their typical patter at him.

The odd couple of Anakin/Obi-Wan with Count Dooku makes this whole exchange hilarious, especially with their unique, juxtaposing personalities. The highlight of their time stuck together from a humor point of view is this moment, which brings out the sass of all three powerful Force users. Obi-Wan is at the forefront of the comedy in this exchange, which is no surprise given he is one of the funniest characters in this show and the prequel trilogy.

“It Won’t Matter.”

B1 Battle Droid, 2.02 ‘Cargo Of Doom’

Two bttle droids accept that they are going to die in The Clone Wars

The battle droids in The Clone Wars may well be the least competent villains in Star Wars, but they are also some of the funniest, providing audiences with consistent laughs in the show. This is arguably their funniest moment.

In the face of a Jedi, one battle droid has optimism in numbers, whereas another has already admitted defeat hysterically. There are many moments from droids where they comment on their inability to handle Jedi, and their stupidity is on show. Here, though, it is the delivery from Matthew Wood and the simple truth of the joke that helps put this moment above so many others.

“This Effort Is No Longer Profitable!”

Hondo Ohnaka, 2.17 ‘Bounty Hunters’

Hondo and his pirates leave the farm alone because it is no longer profitable in The Clone Wars

The pound-for-pound funniest character in The Clone Wars, and maybe even the Star Wars franchise in general, is Hondo Ohnaka, who has a highlight reel of hilarious quotes. This is one of his most iconic.

It follows his defeat at the hands of Jedi and bounty hunters on an innocent farm he attempted to steal from and hammers home to fans that despite how terrible of a person Hondo may be, he is impossible to hate; he is too funny. One of his best character traits is how he spins situations to suit his narrative, and this is not just one of the first examples of this shtick but one of the most entertaining.

“Insolence? We Are Pirates. We Don’t Even Know What That Means!”

Hondo Ohnaka, 5.01 ‘Revival’

Hondo Ohnaka claims to not know the meaning of insolence in The Clone Wars

The fearlessness of Hondo and his pirates has to be commended. His literal laughing in the faces of not only Jedi but animals like Maul is almost admirable, as well as side-splitting when paired with lines like this.

Like Hondo himself, the quote is a riot. The fact that neither he nor his crew likely knows what insolence means, paired with his laugh, delivery, and who he is talking to, all help make this line one of The Clone Wars funniest. The juxtaposition of Maul’s focused, rage-filled demeanor with Hondo’s blaster-wielding, devil-may-care pirate self is a brilliant image that the writers thankfully paired with a hilarious quote.
