Apple debuts a thrilling trailer for The Afterparty, starring all-star comedians Tiffany Haddish, Zoë Chao, Sam Richardson, Ben Schwartz, Ike Barinholtz, Jamie Demetriou, Ilana Glazer, and Dave Franco. It’s the heavily anticipated murder-mystery comedy series from Academy Award winners Chris Miller & Phil Lord and premieres globally next Friday on January 28th, 2022 on Apple TV+.
For those of us who pay more attention to the shows & movies themselves than the names of celebrities, The Afterparty comes from the guys who brought us Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, 21 Jump Street, and The Lego Movie. The Afterparty
The Afterparty wouldn’t be a murder-mystery if it didn’t begin with death. Xavier (Dave Franco) is a pop star in his thirties, and had been thrown against the rocks below his sleek beachside mansion, where he’d been hanging out with some old schoolmates following their fifteen-year high school reunion. Now, here comes Danner (Haddish), the first detective on the scene.
Upon Danner’s arrival, she realizes that the culprit must be someone nearby, not a stranger to Xavier and begins taking everyone’s statements or, as she termed it, hearing their “mind movies”. She was even brought a bag of the classical movie night snack, popcorn to snack on while hearing all the “mind movies” play out.
Like a cookie jar filled with cookies, The Afterparty is filled with actors who have a tendency to be the very funniest parts of whatever project they’re starring in. But what was gathered for the production of The Afterparty is clearly the “ensemble of a comedy geek’s dreams.”
