The Amazing Spider-Man 2 actor Dane DeHaan becomes the most recent addition to the star-studded cast of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film Oppenheimer.
Actor Dane DeHaan becomes the most recent addition to the star-studded cast of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, Oppenheimer. Nolan will be leaving the realm of sci-fi for Oppenheimer, returning to a project more akin to his work on the WWII movie Dunkirk. The film will tell the story of American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer as he helps to develop the first atomic bomb. Oppenheimer is set to begin filming as early as this spring and is expected to release in July of 2023.
While much is still unknown about the film, it has been confirmed that the titular role Oppenheimer will be played by longtime Nolan collaborator Cillian Murphy. The Irish actor will be joined on screen by many Hollywood heavy-hitters, including Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Rami Malek, and Florence Pugh. As the beginning of production approaches, Nolan is continuing to add names to his cast, and by Oppenheimer‘s release date, it’s likely fans will be treated to one of Nolan’s trademark massive ensemble casts filled with prestigious talents.
Now, THR reports that the latest addition to Oppenheimer’s cast of stars is DeHaan. The announcement of DeHaan’s casting included no information as to his role in the project. While many of the other big-name actors in Oppenheimer have had their characters revealed, neither Nolan nor producer Emma Thomas have given any information on his character.
While no stranger to the biopic, DeHaan is best known to viewers through his work in the sci-fi and fantasy genres. After breaking out in 2012’s Chronicle, he played a version of the Green Goblin in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and starred in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. It will certainly be exciting for fans to watch DeHaan show off his acting chops in a Nolan drama, no matter the role, rather than a fantastical action-adventure.
Nolan certainly proved with Dunkirk that he can give a unique, well-crafted take on the historical drama, contributing to the great anticipation around this film. With the added mystery of casting actors such as DeHaan and Malek without revealing their roles, prospective audiences are buzzing to learn more about Oppenheimer. It is likely more information will be revealed as filming commences, but Nolan is known for keeping his films under wraps for as long as possible, then delivering something unexpected. That said, fans will most likely have to wait until the summer of next year to get the real scoop on Oppenheimer.
