GTA Online players have discovered that Franklin’s suit in the newest update The Contract resembles the one Vice City’s Tommy Vercetti wore.
In the newest update to Grand Theft Auto Online, titled “The Contract,“ players have come across an easter egg that clearly references an outfit from Rockstar’s PS2-era Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. GTA Online‘s newest content expansion was released last month and is considered one of the biggest post-launch updates players have seen from Rockstar Games so far. “The Contract” update features the return of GTA 5‘s Franklin Clinton, Chop the Dog, and Lamar and includes new exclusive music from Dr. Dre, a new radio station, weapons, quality of life updates, and new missions that explore the returning characters and GTA Online’s ongoing story.
Throughout its history, Rockstar Games has implemented distinctive Easter eggs within each GTA game they create, beginning with Grand Theft Auto on PS1 in 1997. Similar to GTA‘s radio stations that host its iconic soundtracks and emblematic cheat codes, these hidden Easter eggs are an integral part of the GTA series and add a new layer of discoverability that has kept the franchise memorable for two decades. Players can spend countless hours exploring the game worlds and can run across references to other games and movies, as well as callbacks to other titles in the Rockstar universe. They can even find strange breakthroughs like ghosts, mythical creatures, cameos, and other intentionally well-hidden secrets.
Reddit user Gromitmugman117 shared their discovery of a GTA: Vice City reference in GTA Online‘s “The Contract” expansion update that was initially overlooked by players. Franklin’s suit in the DLC resembles Tommy Vercetti’s “Soiree” outfit from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The Soiree outfit is a light blue suit with a black shirt and black loafers and is one of the very first outfits players unlock in Vice City after completing “The Party” mission. The suit demonstrates opulence and power.
While the suit is clearly a Vice City reference, many players in the comments believe that it also hints at the next installment in the franchise, Grand Theft Auto 6. Most recently, players have discovered a handful of easter eggs and hints referencing Vice City in both GTA Online and the newly released Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. Specifically, however, the one that stands out the most is a hidden image of a tropical home stuck between UFO sightings in the San Andreas remaster’s Lil Probe. Many believe that one specific picture could be from Grand Theft Auto 6, as it features a decorated house with graphics much better than those in GTA 5.
It’s unknown if the suit is simply a callback for long-time fans or if Rockstar is hinting at a future installment in the lucrative GTA series. Franklin’s suit seems to be meticulously added to grab attention, something that contrasts with other Vice City references found throughout recent GTA games. Until Rockstar makes an official announcement, however, fans will have to wait a little longer to find out more about the future of GTA.
Grand Theft Auto Online is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
