How to Write a Perfect Poem For Monika in Doki Doki Literature Club Plus

Date:

Doki Doki Literature Club Plus includes new achievements that tease a Monika route. However, like most of the game this may not be what it seems.

Doki Doki Literature Club Plus has only been out for a little over a week, but it already caused resurgence in fans and new comers alike. The game isn’t just a simple remaster but includes new features like a customized desktop with wallpapers. Those that dive deep will even find new lore about the characters.

In Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, players can get creative by using a certain set of words and creating poems out of them. However, as the game progresses, these words become more complex and even odd to throw players off. However, regardless of how complex these collections of words get, players need to choose words worth between 1 and 3 points. Therefore, to create a perfect poem in Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, players must pick every word that’s worth 3 points.

With its release on consoles, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus includes achievements and trophies that seem to hint at a new Monika route. This comes in the form of writing a perfect poem, something that is reserved only for the other girls. While this might not result in a brand new ending in Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, it has some hidden mechanics of its own.

Missing Love Interest in Doki Doki Literature Club Plus

Yuri and Natsuki won't let allow players to choose Monika in Doki Doki Literature Club Plus

First Playthrough Deception

During the initial run of the game, Monika is seemingly presented as a love interest for the player. However, as soon as the poem mini-game loads it is clear that Monika has no corresponding favored words. This will be further lampooned in the daily conversations as Monika will point out how the player’s current poem clearly is meant for Sayori, Natsuki, or Yuri. For now, players will simply need to make poems for the other girls. This will all end tragically until the completion of the first Act.

Act 2 Teasing

The second playthrough will be noticeably more corrupt and terrifying. Sayori is completely missing, however, her words are still available for choosing. Both Natsuki and Yuri’s sticker avatar may jump up for Sayori’s words, but none of the scores have changed. Occasionally, Monika’s sticker will jump up from below the poem book. But this is simply a trick and Monika still has no score for any words entered.

Still, players may want to aim for making the first two Act 2 poems for Natskui in Doki Doki Literature Club Plus. Doing so will cause Monika to attempt to give a very personal poem to the player on the final day. However, this will fail and cause a fake crash within DDLC.

Always Perfect for Monika in Doki Doki Literature Club Plus

Once Monika is fed up with the ruse, she will simply delete Natsuki and Yuri, starting the beginning of Act 3. After introducing herself, players will have two options: the first is exiting right out of DDLC and deleting Monika’s character quickly file. This rewards a ketch of Monika, but will prevent the perfect poem creation.

The second choice is to listen to Monika’s spiel completely. How this plays out depends on if the player is going through DDLC alone or has an audience. For the former, Monika will read the PC system name or the screen name of those on PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch consoles. If the player is streaming or recording with third-party PC applications like OBS, XSplit, LiveHime, PandaTool, Douyu, or Huomao Monika will know. She can also sense if console players are sharing via the integrated streaming options to Twitch and YouTube. In those cases, Monika will threaten a jump scare trick, calmly relent, and then rapidly jump scare anyway.

Once going through that opening, Monika will force players to date her with only a single option of “yes”. She will then open the poem mini-game in Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, but it turns out to be a busted farce. Every word is either simply “Monika”, an alternate spelling, or a corruption like “M1/2nik”, “Monaba”, “on ka”, etc. Regardless of selection, every word is worth three points each and will result in a perfect score of 60. The Perfect Poem for Monika achievement/trophy should unlock at this point. If it does not, players may need to share the completed poem with Monika and read her own in return; it will be titled Happy End.
