The Power Plant Event in Pokémon Go introduces new Electric-type Pokémon into the game. It features its own random encounters, rewards, and raids.

The Power Plant event is active in Pokémon Go and it offers the chance to capture brand-new Pokémon. It’s common for new events to act as the debut for Pokémon from the mainline series. Pokémon Go is currently releasing creatures up to its eighth generation but at random order. Normally, new Pokémon from classic generations are added in chunks. Although, a handful are added to the game as an individual. The current event available in the game is the Power Plant even which focuses on assisting Team Instinct Leader Spark to unlock the Mysterious Door.

This is directly tied to the upcoming Pokémon Go Johto Tour event happening this February. The Power Plant event will take place from Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. to Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. local time. For the first time ever, trainers will be able to get their hands on Helioptile and Heliolisk, two Electric-type Pokémon that originated from the Kalos region. Trainers will be able to evolve their Helioptile into a Heliolisk after giving it 50 candy and a Sun Stone. Not only that, but this event features its own set of raid battles, wild spawns, and chances to capture Shiny Pokémon.

The Power Plant event is continuing the story of Pokémon Go‘s Season of Heritage. With the release of Pokémon Legends Arceus right around the corner, more tie-in events will become available. While this event is active, trainers can find Shiny Pokémon like Trubbish or Porygon more easily. Although, certain raid battles will switch out in the middle of the event.

Field Research Tasks Tasks and Rewards for Power Plant

  • Walk 4km: Emolga encounter.
  • Catch 5 Electric-type Pokémon: Voltorb, Electrike, Joltik, Helioptile, Alolan Grimer, or Trubbish encounter.

Team GO Rocket Takeover

  • This will start on Monday, January 24th at 12 a.m local time and will increase Team Rocket’s appearance on the map and balloons.

Overall, trainers should focus on finding and capturing as many Helioptile as possible. Earning enough Pokémon Go candy can help it evolve into a pretty powerful Electric-type Pokémon. Not only that, but Shiny Trubbish has been a fan-favorite for hunting. This event is the best chance to get it with its increased spawn rate. Currently, Helioptile does not have its Shiny form available in the game. It’s likely it will be added in a future event.
